Yusuf Yakubu is a DAAD-funded MSc candidate at Stellenbosch University. Supervised by Dr Nabila Ismail and Dr Emilyn Costa Conceição, his research focuses on tuberculosis, antimicrobial resistance, and the impact of mixed Mycobacterium tuberculosis infections on phenotypic drug susceptibility testing for nitroimidazole drugs.
He has a background in medical laboratory science, with experience in TB diagnostics, culture, GeneXpert, line probe assays, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. His interests include bioinformatics, molecular epidemiology, and infectious disease research, with a strong commitment to improving laboratory capacity and public health in Africa.
