Josué Marcon

Davi Josué Marcon is a PhD candidate in Parasitic Biology in the Amazon at the State University of Pará (UEPA) and a researcher at the Bacteriology Section of the Evandro Chagas Institute (IEC), Brazil. His research focuses on the application of whole-genome sequencing (WGS) and genomic epidemiology to investigate the transmission dynamics and evolution of drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis, with particular emphasis on extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB) in the Brazilian Amazon. He has experience in mycobacterial culture, molecular diagnostics, genomic surveillance, and bioinformatics, contributing to national initiatives aimed at strengthening tuberculosis surveillance and precision public health. During his fellowship at Stellenbosch University, he will expand his expertise in advanced TB genomics, bioinformatics, and international collaborative research, supporting knowledge exchange between Brazil and South Africa.
