Ross Vermeulen is a molecular biologist and biotechnology entrepreneur based at Stellenbosch University. His work focuses on developing technologies that make advanced biotechnology more accessible and scalable, particularly within emerging ecosystems. Ross is a co-founder of Fluorobiotech, a biotechnology company developing innovative systems for recombinant protein production. The company’s technology aims to reduce the cost and complexity of producing critical enzymes used in diagnostics, research, and mRNA vaccine manufacturing.

Ross has spent more than a decade working in molecular microbiology and recombinant protein expression, contributing to numerous scientific publications and postgraduate training. His work increasingly focuses on translating academic discoveries into practical technologies that can be adopted by industry. In addition to his role at Fluorobiotech, Ross is involved in building the broader biotechnology ecosystem at Stellenbosch University through translational laboratories and startup support initiatives aimed at helping young scientists move innovations from the lab to the market.
