About Dr. Astrid Treffry-Goatley

Dr Astrid Treffry-Goatley is a Senior Researcher at the Centre for Epidemic Response and Innovation (CERI) and Co-Lead of the Public Squares development project in the Division for Research Development (DRD) at Stellenbosch University. Her work sits at the intersection of arts, social science, and health research, using participatory and creative methods to engage communities in addressing complex social and health challenges. With a background in ethnography, musicology, and film studies, she specialises in participatory and transdisciplinary research approaches that bring community voices into research on issues such as gender-based violence, infectious diseases, and climate-related mental health. Her work focuses on public engagement, social justice, and innovative methods for co-producing knowledge with communities.
