About Trevolin Pillay

Trevolin Pillay is an intern in Bioinformatics at CERI. He graduated from Belgium Campus iTversity in Pretoria with a BSc in Information Technology (magna cum laude) in 2023, before beginning an internship at KRISP in 2024 where he was introduced to the field of bioinformatics and scientific research.

In 2025, Trevolin made history as the first Deaf student to earn a postgraduate degree at Stellenbosch University, graduating with a BSc Honours in Bioinformatics. He was recognised by the university for breaking communication barriers and advancing inclusion.

Now at CERI, he contributes to sequencing operations; including monitoring sequencing runs, managing data transfers, supporting basecalling processes, troubleshooting technical issues, and administering user and client access for research projects.
