Dr. Ottovon Bismark Dakurah is a bioinformatician and computational biologist specializing in evolutionary genomics. He holds a PhD in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology from Stellenbosch University, where his doctoral research advanced our understanding of chromatin accessibility and its influence on recombination hotspot localization in yeast genomes. His research bridges fundamental genomics and translational medicine. He has collaborated with the Pan African Cancer Research Institute to investigate HIV-HPV co-infection dynamics and their impact on tumor mutational burden, contributing to precision oncology initiatives across Africa. Currently, he focuses on respiratory pathogen surveillance systems that strengthen pandemic preparedness and epidemic prevention frameworks. His technical expertise spans bioinformatics software development, high-performance and cloud computing, and big data analytics. He specializes in proteomics, transcriptomics, next-generation sequencing data management and analysis, pipeline development, genomic epidemiology, and recombination genomics. Dr. Dakurah excels at designing scalable computational workflows that transform complex biological datasets into actionable insights. Before transitioning to computational biology, he practiced as a medical laboratory scientist specializing in chemical pathology for over six years in Ghana\'s diagnostic sector. His clinical experience at various hospitals, including managerial positions, provides him with a unique perspective that bridges bench science and computational analysis, enabling him to design bioinformatics solutions grounded in real-world clinical challenges. This multidisciplinary background positions him at the intersection of computational innovation and clinical impact in African genomic landscape. |
